About me

I have a new website! Check it out here: www.katieduckworth.com

Hello. This is me, Katie Duckworth.

Katie Duckworth

Thank you for clicking through to find out more. If you want to get a quick sense of me and how I work take a look at my blog. The latest one is here.

I see myself as a changemaker, coach and trainer with a unique gift for helping purpose-led organisations and teams rediscover their zest for creating a better world.

One of my favourite ways to do this is by working individually with senior leaders supporting them with one-to-one coaching. And I work with others at all levels to make sure that everyone in your organisation is as effective as they possibly can be.

I’ve supported dozens of people in organisations big and small who are doing amazing work.  Here are some of them:

  • 350.org
  • ActionAid UK & International
  • Alzheimer Scotland
  • Aspire
  • Bliss Baby Charity
  • The Back Up Trust
  • BBC
  • British Ecological Society
  • Child Poverty Action Group
  • The Core Coalition
  • Diabetes UK
  • Fareshare
  • Forum for the Future
  • International Drug Policy Consortium
  • Joseph Rowntree Foundation
  • Leonard Cheshire Disability
  • Off Centre
  • Royal Star & Garter Homes
  • Traidcraft
  • The Trussell Trust
  • The Trades Union Congress (TUC)
  • Wateraid

I absolutely love supporting people in these dynamic organisations and I know I am truly lucky to be doing the work I do.

My clients rave about my infectious enthusiasm and my flair for bringing out the very best in their people.

Over the years, I have found that we have a shared vision of a just world in which everyone is in work or education, has a voice, a home, clean water and healthcare, and no one goes to bed hungry, neglected, discriminated against or abused.

My mission is to support senior leaders to help their people be so productive, so effective, so totally happy that they come into work every day and absolutely nail what needs to be done with flair and panache.

My experience

One of the things I often hear from my clients is that I ‘speak their language’. Many coaches and trainers come from corporate backgrounds. They have awesome skills, I’m sure, but their lack of experience of the realities of working in the wonderful, exhilarating and maddening purpose-led world means they may not be best placed to support its people.

This is what makes me unique and why I set up Be The Change. I really ‘get it’ and I know I can make a difference to the sector I love.

I have more than 20 years experience in the charity world. I started my working life as a teacher in a rural secondary school in Zimbabwe.  On my return to London, I became administrator for the Relief Society of Tigray, grappling with the problems of providing food, health care and transport to a war-torn region.

I then spent eight life-changing years at Christian Aid in different project-based and education and training roles.

After a stint at the National Trust heading up its young people’s and family education programme, I went freelance and worked for ten years as a popular communications writer and project manager for the charity sector.

Then with young children keeping me from long trips overseas, I retrained as a coach and ‘Put YOU back into your life’ was born – a coaching and training practice helping parents find energy, focus and time for themselves.

Be The Change is a return to my first love – the purpose-led sector.

Highlights of my time in the sector before I began coaching are:

  • trips to Burkina Faso, Ghana, India, Sierre Leone, Tanzania and Zimbabwe with professional photographers to gather stories for fundraising and publicity campaigns.
  • writing Education and Health, two books in a series on children’s rights for Save the Children.
  • writing 101 Family Days out for the National Trust.
  • preparing and travelling with young people on exposure tours to Africa
  • supporting the work of Christian Aid, Comic Relief, CAFOD, Save the Children, and many other amazing non-profit organisations.

All of these wonderful experiences, inform my coaching and training today, and I hope make me a knowledgeable, empathetic and ‘critical friend’ to those who work with me.

If you’re interested in working with me too, give me a call on 020 8772 7808 or 07958 501 427 or email katie@be-the-change.org.uk. I’d love to hear from you.
