Here’s Part Two of your ‘Listen more, talk less’ guide to third sector one-to-ones. Today, I’ve got five more super-powerful questions for line managers. These explore progress with a current project and will help you steer clear of doling out advice straightaway after “what have you done so far?”
1. What’s not happening for you?
2. What’s stopping you moving forward do you think?
3. Tell me about a time when you did something similar. What did you learn?
4. What resources do you have that you can draw on?
5. What do you need to believe to make this goal a reality?
Again, don’t rush through these. Take your time and help your report to find their own solutions. They will feel so much more empowered and capable.
See you tomorrow for more coachly questions.
